A Christmas Storyis undoubtedly one of the popular Christmas movies. With a great plot, plenty of humor, and some truly iconic movie props, what’s not to love? So, with it almost being the Christmas season — which is the perfect time to haveA Christmas Storyplaying on repeat — let’s talk about a few things you might not know about the home that served as the setting for this film.
First off, if you’re a die-hard fan, you may want to book your stay at Ralphie’s house. That’s right, you can actually spend the night in Ralphie’s and Randy’s bedroom! The whole house serves as a museum and is open to the public during the day. It’s a great fan experience, as you’ll be able to see tons of props and scenes that were used in the movie. But after the museum closes for the day, guests can spend the night and have the whole house to themselves. How cool is that?
Since the house serves as a museum, the owners try to have all of the original film props available for visitors to see. While they’ve had most of the props for years now, they recently bought Ralphie’s Red Ryder BB Gun. After the gun popped up at an auction, the museum owners just had to have it and eventually bought it for $10,000. Unfortunately, there’s still one important prop the museum has yet to get its hands on — Ralphie’s infamous bunny suit. Peter Billingsley, who played Ralphie, is still the owner of the adorable pink suit.
Fortunately, the museum isn’t done expanding. The owners bought the house next door this past spring so the Cleveland house can become bigger and better. This expansion will allow more guests to not only visit the museum, but to stay overnight as well.
TheA Christmas Storyhouse is one of the most famous film sets still open to the public today. So, if you’re looking for a place to visit this holiday season, you may want to take a trip to Cleveland!
